Most spectacular\u00a0 this is seen in the ongoing &#8220;free newspaper war&#8221;, which will reach a climax this friday when the intruding Nyhedsavisen hits the streets.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">However when battle is over, and\u00a0one or\u00a0perhaps two of the free newspapers stands back as winners,\u00a0the free newspaper-war\u00a0might lateron be considered a minor and insignificant event compared to the changes occuring on the internet scene at the same time. Allthough these seems to be set off or at least accelerated by &#8220;the free newspaper war&#8221; itself.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><strong>Entering the internet scene: something new!<\/strong><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Som\u00a0three weeks ago the nothern jutland newspaper Nordjyske <a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/08\/sneak-preview-now-theyre-really-here-nordjyskes-new-newspapers-and-website.html\">launched a hitherto onseen integrated free newspaper\/internet media platform<\/a>, Centrum.<\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Ekstra Bladet has launched an <a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/09\/danish-ohmynews-like-site-from-ekstra-bladet.html\">extremely interesting Danish user generated content-site<\/a>.<\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Politiken has <a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/05\/danish-media-revolution-new-high-quality-print-and-web-media-to-give-news-away-this-autumn.html\">redesigned its entire mediaplatform<\/a> shifting the newspaper newsdesk to the Internet and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danskedagblade.dk\/dCMS\/application.do?command=getDocument&#038;documentId=412A5DE363FD1489C12571E90040996D\">promising to go wholehartedly into the user-driven arena as well<\/a>.<\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">And then friday <a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/05\/danish-media-revolution-new-high-quality-print-and-web-media-to-give-news-away-this-autumn.html\">Nyhedsavisen is expected to arrive to the online scene<\/a> with what is expected to be a wholeharted Danish OhMyNews-like newsservice engaging citizen journalist to deliver content alongside the employed professional editorial staff.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">But this is not all: Among others also Jubii (Lycos Denmark &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/03\/blooming-of-collaborative-services-in-danish-new-media.html\">story<\/a>), Urban (<a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/05\/urban-deploys-feeding-channel-for-user-generated-content.html\">story<\/a>)\u00a0and Fyens Stiftstidende (<a href=\"http:\/\/newmediatrends.fdim.dk\/2006\/03\/blooming-of-collaborative-services-in-danish-new-media.html\">story<\/a>) (and MSN!) have engaged in highly interesting initiatives.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><strong>The reasons why<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Yesterday I spoke on these issues at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfje.dk\/cfje\/Uddbase.nsf\/ID\/UB06460273\">CFJE<\/a> in Aarhus highligting the three main drivers of this media explotion:<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><strong>1. Technological landscape.<\/strong> 89 percent of danes are online, 80 percent of these on broadband connections (says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dst.dk\/upload\/bef2006e_001.pdf\">Statistics Denmark<\/a>). Accordingly traffic numbers on the Danish websites have seen an unparalled and continues growth since, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fdim.dk\/?vis=page&#038;ID=47\">close to five-doubling since 2001<\/a>. The internet is today as accepted and used a medium as any!<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><strong>2. The money issue. <\/strong>In 2005 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fdim.dk\/default.asp?vis=pagepress&#038;id=61&#038;pid=452\">more than 1 billion Danish kroners<\/a> was spend advertising on the internet. In 2006 this number might <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fdim.dk\/default.asp?vis=pagepress&#038;id=61&#038;pid=509\">reach more than 1,5 billion DDK<\/a>. Growthrates are incredible, and the internet is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.do.dk\/asp\/rfuv3.asp\">soon to reach 10 percent of total advertising spend in Denmark<\/a>.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><strong>3. Web 2.0. <\/strong>&#8220;The social internet&#8221; is here for a fact, and it has unleashed an enormous potential in relating to users not as an audience but as particapants in content creation. <\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">More than 50 millions blogs is presently measured by technorati, photo- and videosharing sites as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\">Flickr<\/a> (and in Denmark <a href=\"http:\/\/www.23hq.com\/\">23hq<\/a>), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">YouTube<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/video.google.com\/\">Google Video<\/a> are blooming, Social bookmarking (<a href=\"http:\/\/del.icio.us\/\">del.icio.us<\/a>) and blogrecommending (<a href=\"http:\/\/digg.com\/\">DIGG<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netscape.com\/\">Netscape News<\/a>) are spreading with the wind. On top (or: on side) of this the entire highly userdriven online gaming industry (e.g. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wow-europe.com\/en\/\">World of Warcraft<\/a>) seems to be proliferating into a non-gaming social universe (<a href=\"http:\/\/secondlife.com\/\">Secondlife<\/a>) offering complete new user experiences.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" \/><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">The scene is, in other words, set for an entire new media era. Which is bound to\u00a0take place on the internet.<\/font><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"> <\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\"><\/p>\n<p \/><\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Danish media landscape is being reshaped as these lines are written.
