Today I turned forty. No big deal. A small family-lunch last sunday. That’s it.
Or so I thought.
Right up untill the moment when I stopped my bike, while turning the corner of my house, and looked up to what – at this time of year – is normally an empty garden.
Not so today: in the middle of the garden someone had pulled up a tent, tables and chairs inside, plates, glasses etc. all lined up. And then, in front of this, around 4o friends and relatives, suddenly starting singing “happy birthday”, all of them smiling at me. An overwhelming and great surprise.
Before having left the office, I was upheld by another -albeit minor – surprise, when a handfull of my board members and business-contact showed up for a bite of cake and a cup of coffee. Turned out it was all iniated by my wife in order to stop me from getting home to early:-) Fantastic day!
