Politiken launches consumernews- and tests-website

  • Jon Lund

Tuesday Politiken is launching their new consumer news- and tests-website, Politiken Tjek. However it’s allready gone live out there – have a look at www.politiken.dk/tjek.

Frontpage of Politiken.dk/tjek

Politiken Tjek is produced by a team of 3 newly recruitet journalists dedicated to the task, assisted by reaserchers and IT-proffessionals, headed by my wife (!) (so watch out – I might be biased:-).

Espresso-machines rated
Topstories right now are “Houseowvners chooses safe loans” and “Dentists cheat on the price”, while the top-test is “The Barista and the consumer checks out six espresso-machines”, rating Nuova Simonelli, the only plastic machine at below half the price of the most expensive machine tested, five out of five.

Web 2.0-ish
The site features a nice little tag-cloud, reader comments and -ratings. Supposedly it will bring also a “readers panel” letting the readers do the testing under editorial supervision. This however doesn’t seem to be live yet.

Competition in the consumer news-space
The launch of Politiken Tjek is only a little more than a month after the launch of a similar website – fpn.dk – by one of the other 3 dominating newspapers, Jyllandsposten. Both of these seems to follow the trend towards niche-sites in areas where advertisers are expected to be willing to pay, to get their messages across. Last week the user stats of fpn.dk was made publicly available at the FDIM toplist, and fpn.dk went straight in as number 38 on the list with 124.000 unique visitors in week 16. It’ll be interesting to follow how the two sites compare to each other, when also the Politiken Tjek figures goes public.
