Trendsales – a second-hand clothing retail site turned social network – distances competitors grossly.

This is one of the main in “The Emperor’s clothes: The true top of Danish clothing online retailers″ – my latest report, published today. Find reference below.
Not alone does trendsales.dk draw more than a third the number of users as does number two on the list – in terms of time spend it quadruples number two on the list. How this translates into the number of transactions or the amount of money generated, however, remains unknown.
What’s interesting as well is how brand-sites are missing from the list. Both smartgirl.dk, smartguy.dk and ellos.dk seems to be established as retailers, while the online stores of eg. fashion brands Inwear, Tiger of Sweden and Only doesn’t appear on the list at all. Perhaps there are actually sustainable ways to deal with channel conflicts. It could seem so.
Also, the category seems rather stable. Comparing the January 2010 numbers to the January 2009 numbers reveals the category as a whole hasn’t grown. As clothing is among the leading sectors in online retail, it seems we’re witnessing a mature market, where the online retailers have actually been able to meet the demand of the customers. That actually huge!
Another interesting – though perhaps not to surprising – finding is how age and sex are the two clearly defining demographics of online clothes shoppers. Young segments are really into this whole clothing/fashion thing – while the elder are not. Women likewise has a MUCH better take on shopping clothes online than does men.

Danes have eyes wide open when shopping on the Internet. Almost one million out of the five million strong population is drawn to dedicated price-comparison-sites – every month! This is among the main conclusions in my new report “The size and role of online price-comparison sites in Denmark”, published today.
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em
To me this evidences the extend to which Danes have embraced the Internet. Shows how much the everyday business environment for Danish retail have actually changed, transcended by the powers of transparency. It helps spell the message, written in capitol letters: “Since you can’t beat it, join it”. At least if you’d like to get within range of that one million price-comparing shoppers out there.
My report shows the number of price comparing Danes have grown 48 percent for the past one and a half year. Also the intensity of usage of price comparison sites is shown to have increased by 20 percent.
Unlike search engines like Google, Price comparison sites doesn’t crawl all products and prices available on the internet. To have your products and prices listed, you’ll have to buy yourself into the pricecomparison site in question. And it’s worth it, it seems.
At least this is what I get from the the data on how 200.000 users of the pricecomparison site findpriser.dk used sites like smartgirl.dk, hm.com and Ikea. Smartgirl.dk had three times the number of findpriser.dk-users stopping by compared to market leader hm.com. The difference? Smartgirl.dk had their products listed, hm.com didn’t. Opposite to furniture, where marketleader – and price comparison enabled – ikea.dk beat up idemøbler.
Even if you’re not really competing on prices, I’d say you should get out there. Why? Because you wanna be where consumers start their journey. Waving your flag, eventually convincing some of them that you in a longer run have the best offer.
