Al Gore’s (not) @ DIA07

This saturday I found out Al Gore’s in Copenhagen speaking on his new book “An inconvienient truth”. this thursday. Only 300 meters away my organisation, FDIM, and the DMF arranges the Danish Internet Award-show, celebrating the best Danish online ads this year. Gore is famous for – among other things – his TV station, Current TV. And for having claimed “inventing the internet” (actually this is not what he said, but that’s another story). (And off course for his book and for being the 45nd US vice president.) 

Gore speaks to 17.00 – we start at 18.00. Hmm, I thought: could you have Al Gore walk the 3 minutes through central Copenhagen, just “accidentally” turning up at DIA? I imagined myself: “I’m proud to be able to introduce you for tonights special guest. A man who’s blah, blah, blah. Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to AL GORE…” 

Not exactly likely, I thought, but … So I started writing, in the Metro, commuting to work Monday morning: 

Subject: Presenting the jurys Grand Prize at Danish Internet Award 07, the 18th of january in Politikens hus in Copenhagen Dear Al Gore, 

The 18th of january in the evening – right after you’re ending your conference at Cirkushallen in Copenhagen, just a 4 minutes walk away – the internet industry of Denmark is celebrating the best creative and most effectfull internet advertisement in the past year. A jury, headed by one of the worlds best creatives, Matias Palm-Jensen, Creative Director of Swedish bureau Farfar, elects the best online advertisement in 6 categories. It all takes place in Politikens House – housing the largest newspaper publishing group of Denmark…” 

Then I reached the Kongens Nytorv metro station and had to get off the train.  Of course you cannot find Al Gores direct email on the web. I managed though to get in contact with the dean at the institute of Aalborg University where Al Gores are supposed to give a lecture on wednesday the 17th. If he knew how to get in contact with Al Gore? Well sure, he’d email the guys he knew to be the Al Gore contacts, and see if they could help.     

One hour later the dream was dead. Gore’s leaving for London right after finishing his scheduled talk thurday. No strolling around the historic city of Copenhagen. No accidential turning up at DIA.

It would have been cool, though!
