In end September Danish newspaper Politiken delivers an online strike at the competitors in the ongoing Danish war of newspapers. By that time Politiken presumably will implement the radical shift whereby the entire newsdesk of the newspaper will move online. The printed newspaper hereafter will be emphasizing background, feature and analysis, leaving regular news to the online arena.
However politiken.dk is not only taking advantage of the internets stunning capabilities as a news-channel. Blogs and user-driven actitivies also seems to playing a mayor part of the new politiken.dk, if you can judge by their just hiring in of my former collegeague Kim Elmose as what I believe to be the first blog-editor in Denmark. According to Kims blog, he’ll be responsible for inspiring the Politiken staff-blogging as well as securing a good environment for the reader/user-blogs on politiken.dk.

I hate to say this, but Mr. Kim Elsmose is not the first blog editor at a Danish newspaper.
Since June I’ve been ekstrabladet.dk’s own Blog-mama.
I am sure that Mr. Kim Elsmose is much more experienced than me, but he is not the first in DK.

Marianne: Is it the experiences of ekstrabladet.dk that leads to Politiken.dk also staffing up on the blogging scene?
Good to see Politiken waking up and hiring such a competent editor as Kim. Really looking forward to seeing the progress!
On another note, Urbanblog.dk has been running since the end of April. The blog-mama over there is Henriette Møller. Although she’s not a journalist, but I don’t see that as a requirement to be a blog-mama. Right now they are looking into hiring a person to be in responsible of Urbanblog.dk, preferably one that is already using Urbanblog.dk.

Well, Jacob, it sure looks like I’ve been missing out on a thing or two 🙁 (rather embarassing I’d say – my headline “First blogeditor employed…” seems to get more and more misleading) Tell me Jacob: is Henriette employed as fulltime blogeditor on urbanblog.dk or does she have the responsibility for the blogs as parts of her other doings?
Don’t worry about it, I do believe he is the first one to have a business card reading blog-editor. But blog-editor does have a weird saying doesn’t it? A person in charge of editing blogs?
Anyway, I am not definitely sure but blogging is one of Henriette’s main tasks, and I do believe the 600 bloggers at Urban would recognize her as the blog-mama. She is the one they e-mail if they’ve got any questions.
But the new position, projectmanager of Urbanblog, will be dedicated to the blogging portal. But I believe it’s normal for everyone at Urban to have several areas of work, considering the size of the staff.
Actually, I think the first newspaper ind Denmark to focus on blogs was Fyens Stiftstidende.
This spring they bought smartlog.dk with several thousand blogs and users.

For the first time in Denmark a daily national newspaper is ready to embrace citizen journalism and take the readers seriously.
All the content in laeserbladet.dk is generated from the readers only.
