Just in: dr.dk wins gold as worlds best TV-station website

  • by

Danish Broadcasting coorperation (DR) took home the gold medal in the 2006 Promax World Gold Award competition.

The winning dr.dk website (corporate site in english, clik here) was redesigned last autumn. I wrote in concluding at that time in my post “LSD revisited – dr.dk redesigns“:

“Quite new, quite bold, I’d say. Frankly it took me a few moments to digest the impression. Then I made up my mind: this is a clever move”

Congratulations, DR!

  1. According to DR themselves, they were the only nominated, because the jury had found no-one else worthy of the honour of being nominated. Don’t you think this explanation holds true, Mads?

  2. No, honestly I cannot see which part(s) of DR’s website is so utterly unique in design, content and/or flow that noone else on the entire planet would qualify for the competition against them. After all this is a VERY big planet with LOTS of tv stations.

I don’t know how the competition here is made up, but it seems like you have to be a member of the organization behind the awards in order to qualify. Furthermore they speak about an ‘Award entry fee’. This makes me think about the Danish competition ‘Best workingplace’, where you have to pay an exuberant amount of money to even be in the competition, aka the true best workingplace may not even be in the talent pool being judged.

Don’t get me wrong here. Kudo’s to DR for winning an award. I am only questioning whether it’s really as groundbreaking as it’s made out to be.
