The past few years k-forum.dk has established itself as on of the major media for communication professionals, updating the people in the communications industry on the flow of trends, developments and people in the industry.
Way before the word “web 2.0” was invented k-forum urged the users to “write for us” – especially targetted to studens who had just finished their master thesis, and wanted to share highlights from it with the world.
Some time ago k-forum started their own blog-community, enabling anyone to create their own blog at k-forum, letting go of the editorial supervision of what content was published at k-forum. And now they have taken it one step futher: the k-profile lets users create profiles on k-forum.
k-forum profiles gathers both professional resumes, lets users link to each others profile and list who’s linking to who. The profiles also contains guest-books and off course the blogs of the users.
If you have created a k-forum blog this is of course the one that’s listed – but you can also choose to feed your profile with the rss of a blog created somewhere else. I created my profile earlier today, pasted in the link to my rss – and this is what it looks like:

In other words: k-forum has adopted most of the 2.0 tecniques usually found at teenage-social-sites like Myspace or Danish Arto.dk to their own site targetted to professionals and definitively grown-ups. And from the looks of it, they’ve succeed. Sharing your experiences, opening up to and engaging in conversations with the world of peers is, apparently, much more than a just a thing for youngsters. It’s a thing for all communities whose members are able to grasp the possibilities of the web. It’s a brave new world!
Running the risk of sounding like an old fart here, I would claim that there could be one very obvious reason why something like this could be a success at K-Forum.
This is the communications business. This usually means a lot of people making a living from communicating and shouting SEE ME, SEE ME from the rooftops in order to get ahead of the curve and make themselves seen, heard and potentially wanted by a new employer. Ultimately it’s about fame, money and getting rich.
This is for people who, if there was a bubble, would be helping blowing it bigger. This is egomania for adults. And yes, I also have a profile there :-).
Hold on now! Egomania is not reserved for old farts! There is a 3000 year old chinese proverb ‘you are better off blowing your own trumpet before others use it as a spitoon. This is for us who blow our own trumpets!
